The Golden Square Mile and Redpath Crescent of Montreal, Quebec, Canada are essentially at the base and south side of Mount Royal and is the area where the wealthiest in Montreal (and Canada) built their homes at the turn of the 20th century. Geographically the area is in downtown Montreal but is predominantly residential .This area is superbly sited according to Feng Shui principles and the closest to feeling the pulse of Montreal, without being consumer by it. It is no wonder that some of the most luxurious real estate in Montreal is within these borders!
Historically the Golden Square Mile was bordered by boulevard René-Lévesque (formerly Dorchester), Pine / Cedar Avenues, Guy and University which formed a square mile. Sherbrooke Street is currently the approximate southern boundary. On Sherbrooke, one finds the gracious older apartment buildings (which are technically undivided coproperties which are different from divided coproperties = condominiums) like the Chateau, the Linton and the Acadia as well as some newer projects including the condomiums at the Ritz Carleton Hotel. In between Sherbrooke and Pine, the Montreal luxury real estate market includes townhouses built in different eras and some detached mansions. Also on Sherbrooke Street are upscale shopping and restaurants. This area also features the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and McGill University.
Redpath Crescent is located just north of Pine Ave and on the south side of Mount Royal Park so that the park is literally their backyard. However downtown is still walkable providing one does not mind dealing with a little slope. Again there are townhouses (approx. a million dollars) mixed in with mansions, with some having breathtaking views.The street has no through traffic so it is a quiet enclave and some of the most desirable luxury real estate in Montreal is found here.
